Another Short Story

Image
Here's one:      That's running a bit late, but, well, better late than never, as the kids like to say.      It's the Spring Equinox 2025 issue of Journ-E: The Journal of Imaginative Literature , y'see, even though the larger world around us, observing that I'm posting this on the Wednesday after Memorial Day, might be inclined to believe that we've entered the unofficial beginning of Summer.      Still, I've got a story called "Cleanse" in the aforementioned issue, the third of the stories I've had published in Journ-E about the talking cats, dogs, and birds living in the magical Realm of Marigold. I'll add here my standard proviso when discussing these Marigold stories: any resemblance between the characters and settings here and the characters and settings of the cartoon series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is entirely purposeful.      The first of the stories, in cas...

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      Coil's done this combining thing a couple times before, usually with Mrs. Teasdale, now that I look back at it: check this page and the following from our 28th storyline, " This Mortal Coil ," for instance.

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      Using anti-aircraft weaponry seems extreme. I mean, yes, Kain's a bird, but still...

The Terebinth Story Archive      Run, Trudy. Run!

Of a Feather, Pg 78

Image
The Daily Grind Table of Contents      When I first started this story last year, each page was just over 500 words long. These last couple weeks, though, they've been inching up toward 700 words each. Definitely a novel we've got going here...

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      Somehow, I don't think any of these folks're gonna qualify as the bluebird of happiness.

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      Seventy-five pages? It's madness! Madness! And it continues next week!

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      We've gotta lotta "what"s involved in this comic, Kain. I think you're gonna hafta be more specific.

KUCI Fund Drive

Image
After six years:      The KUCI Annual Fund Drive returns this week!      And yes, if it's been six year since we last had an on-air fund drive, we can't really call it "annual." But that doesn't seem to be stopping us.      I'd be willing to bet that nothing could stop KUCI, and I've been there for something like 42 years, hosting " The Darkling Eclectica ," for the first few decades on Saturday mornings but in recent decades puttering about on Sunday afternoons from 4 till 6 Pacific Time. Even the Covid Pandemic, which closed the UCI campus for something like a year and a half, couldn't stop KUCI, a lot of us DJs putting together shows that then got loaded onto Mr. Machine, the KUCI Computational Device, and which were then broadcast, usually even at the time and on the date for which they were intended!      So if you've got a bucket of nickels you've been looking to do somet...

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      I guess the question with Malvolio is always, "Do we want her beating up our friends or our adversaries?" 'Cause somebody's gonna get beat up: it's just a matter of who...

Terebinth, Page 1,829: The Ballad of Shurra & Blatt

Image
The Terebinth Story Archive      When writing verse here where one of the main characters is a squirrel, I find myself constantly running up against the conundrum that the entire rest of the world apparently considers "squirrel" to be a two-syllable word. Madness, I call it. Madness!

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      It's nice to know that the other characters are having an adventure, too, while this one's going on. Everyone gets into the act!

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      I debated interally for longer than I think people very well might believe about using the phrase "spread-eagle" here.

The Daily Grind Table of Contents      Well, if Kain doesn't survive this storyline, he'll still go down in the history books as the hero of our longest storyine in years. That's gotta be worth something ...
