The Lure of the Mechanical #1

Once again this August:

Michael K. Hill of Tangent Press East is sponsoring the "Write Like You're Alive" event, the 2nd year he's done it after Lise Quintana at Zoetic Press started it in the misty ages before the Pandemic. WLYA involves making some sort of creative object every day during the month of August, and I've decided as usual to write a bunch of odd poems.

I mean, I haven't decided that they're gonna be odd. I just assume they'll be odd since that's pretty much where my entire oeuvre falls.

"Oeuvre" means "eggs," doesn't it? So I'm comparing my poetry to a bunch of dropped eggs?

     Yes, that sounds right.

Be that as it may, however, I guess I'll post 'em here as I get 'em done.

Concerning the theme I'll be exploring, well, to judge by this first one, it'll be The Lure of the Mechanical. It's an idea I played with a little bit during the course of my Plague Years Poems—check the ones starting in the second week of September—but here's hoping we find out what it actually means as this thing goes along!

But here's the first one. Number two tomorrow!
